New Coach Same Goals………The Atomsmashers Are Ready

After Coach Utaff Gordon decided to step down after taking the Atomsmashers to a 26-3 record, undefeated in the region 14-0 and a Elite 8 appearance,it seem only fitting that former Savannah State track star Rico Campbell would take over. The Atomsmashers bring back three players from last season’s team Emondre Bowles 2021 PG 6-2, averaged 10 off of the bench. Will be a player to watch); Shamar Jones 6-1, 2019 SG, averaged 20 points a game as a junior, Quamaine Williams, 2020 6-6, reserve off the bench now in a starting role. Adding to the mix Beach transfer and all region performer Brandon Harris 6-6 SF has offers throughout the Southeast. Jenkins transfer Lamont Sams 6-9 F who has plenty of upside averaged 6.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game brings shot blocking, rebounding and scoring. Talking to Coach Campbell, (my college classmate at Savannah State), he talked about the how excited he will be for the following season. His immediate goals are to establish they are the best team in the City of Savannah, and get a little of revenge on GAC (Which beat this in the Elite 8). Bringing back 3 starters, along with Harris and  Sams might be enough to make Johnson the King of the CIty by the Sea. I think region 3A will be tough, Johnson could be right back in the hunt this year to hoist the gold ball. A Johnson vs GAC championship in Macon could be interesting.
