The Brunswick Pirates (6A) will play in the Signature Series of the Culligan City Of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida December 20-22. It is the second year in a row a team from Georgia has played in the Signature Series. During the 2017-2018 season, Upson Lee (4A) won the signature series with victories over Kaukauna (WI) and Corbin (KY).
Brunswick will play WIAA Division 2 State Semifinalist La Crosse Central (WI) in the opening round followed by a game against winner/loser of Glens Falls (NY)/Petal (MS). Glens Falls was a NYSPHAA Class B-section II Semifinalist while Petal reached the MHSAA 6A Sweet 16 last season.
Seniors Kelani Walker (19.5ppg 5.5rpg), Sheyden Baggs and Sharrod Ross hold down the backcourt while freshman forward Joyful Hawkins (15ppg 8.5rpg) has shown flashes of how special he can be in the future for Brunswick.
After returning from the Culligan City of Palms Signature Series, Brunswick will play three more out-of-state opponents in Lincoln (FL), Lake Minneola (FL) and Miami-Norland (FL) during the 9th Annual McDonald’s Invitational at Tift County High School December 27-29. The Pirates also have a home-and-home series against the class 7A Tift Blue Devils this season.
Brunswick went 1-0 against out-of-state opponents last season defeating Lake Minneola (FL) 54-47 at the McDonald’s Invitational.
Brunswick is 3-0 so far this season and reached the 6A Sweet 16 last year, was 6A State Runner-Up in 2017 and was 5A state champions in 2015 under head coach Chris Turner.
