Panther Pride, In Starr’s Mill ………..Meet the New Starr’s Mill Panthers

Starrs Mill Panthers are looking to build off of last seasons run to the Elite 8. The Panthers were 22-8 last year and region champs with a 10-2 region record. This will be somewhat of a new look team with Charlemagne Gibbons taking of the reigns of the program. Gibbons who spent the last 4 years as an assistant at FAU has also enlisted the help of former Lawson State Coach Phillip Shumpert to help guide the Panthers. The Panthers were hit hard by graduation especially region player of year Drew Hudson (18.0ppg/10.2rpg). The bright side is the return of inside outside combination of 6’7 Nate Allison (10.4ppg/7.3rpg) and 6’3 guard Julian Lynch(12.2ppg/5.1rpg). Allison a division one prospect is a tough low post presence with a nice outside stroke, and Lynch is one of he biggest sleepers in Georgia is a threat to score from all over the floor. The Panthers also have a major addition in all-state forward Jamaine Mann who averaged 10.6ppg/7.8rpg in leading ELCA to a final 4 appearance last year. The supporting cast of wings  6’2 senior Nick Weist, 6’4 junior Reese Clevenger, along junior point guards Zac Cerniglia and Daryl Rice should give the Panther a much needed scoring punch. The Panthers have a difficult schedule early playing in a number of showcase events as well as non-region games against Sandy Creek and East Coweta.  Last season’s experience and the combination of  Allison, Lynch, and Mann makes this bunch from Peachtree City a tough out every night. Starr’s Mill will be dangerous come February, Coach Gibbons is a proven championship coach after winning a state title at Morgan County. The addition of Coach Shumpert bringing college experience will be big for them. Nate Allison and Mann are 2 D1 guys you gotta keep a eye on, this team is my pick to win region and make some serious noise in the state playoffs…….Final Four.
